Vittorio Alfieri and the theme of illusion
Finally Foscolo reflects on the theme that had worked so hard for him: the tombs, especially those of the Great ones, are important for those who remain alive.
We have the illusion, so important for man, that those stones are the link between who is alive and who is in the world of most; thanks to the sepulchres we can access that patrimony of hopes, values, ideals that once animated those Great Ones.
Foscolo met Alfieri and remembers how Alfieri himself used to go to that church to escape his troubles.
Foscolo recalls his friend and his country ideals: remember that we are on the threshold of the Risorgimento!
