Il Beato Angelico

Fra Angelico

Angelico was a friar of humble origins who had two vocations in his life: painting and religious faith.

Born in Vicchio, near Florence, around 1395, he began painting before becoming a Dominican friar with the name of Fra 'Giovanni and continues to do so even when he is appointed prior of the convent of S.

Domenico in Fiesole.

He died in Rome in 1455.

Although known as Beato Angelico, the Church will only proclaim him blessed in 1982.

Many legends have been born around the figure of the painter friar.

It is said that he did not paint if he had not prayed and never corrected his works before, because he was convinced that each brush stroke had a divine origin.
