Il monumento funebre di Machiavelli

The funeral monument of Machiavelli

In Carme, the visit to the sepulchres of Santa Croce is different from the natural one you have today when you enter.

The first monument that Foscolo remembers is that of Niccolò Machiavelli, Secretary of the Florentine Republic, who died in exile in 1527.

This immense character (historian, politician, writer) is presented in all his grandiose, cynical intelligence: Machiavelli is considered the founder of the politic science.

In the Latin inscription, this importance is summarized in a simple and elegant verse: "For such a great man there are not enough words".
