I re di Roma

The kings of Rome

Since its birth, Rome was a monarchy, that is, a territory entrusted to a king who had all the powers: he led the army, administered justice, promulgated laws and was the religious head of the population.

The kings of Rome were not born by birth, that is, there was no royal family: at the death of a king, the Senate appointed a new one choosing between nobles and patricians.

The monarchical period of Rome lasted around 250 years.

During this time it was ruled by 7 kings; all contributed to the growth of the city and population.

These 7 kings were: Romulus, Numa Pompilio, Tullio Ostilio, Anco Marzio, Tarquinio Prisco, Servio Tullio, Tarquinio the Superb.
