Il commercio

The Commerce

Rome's fortune was mainly due to its position: an extremely strategic trading hub.

Rome was in fact connected by various communication routes.

Through Etruria the cities of Magna Grecia were reached; thanks to the Tiber the sea was reached and the goods were easily transported and finally, thanks to the Via Salaria the Adriatic coasts were reached.

Trade was about bartering.

Among the exchange goods, the most important that was also used as currency was salt.
