Ulysses and Nausicaa

Ulysses has been stopped for many years on the island of Ogigia by the nymph Calipso who holds him prisoner because he loves him.

At the behest of the gods Ulysses leaves the island on a raft.

A storm wrecks him on the land of the Phaeacians.

Tired and injured he shelters behind a bush.

Here he is awakened by the cries of Nausicaa, daughter of the king of the Phaeacians, who together with his maids went to the river to wash clothes.

Nausicaa finds Ulysses and leads him to the palace where he tells his adventures to Alcinoo king of the Phaeacians.
