La storia di Giulio Cesare - parte 1

The story of Julius Caesar - part 1

Julius Caesar was a great general who conquered peoples and immense territories.

He was born in 100 BC from a very important family at that time: among his ancestors we remember Romulus, the first king of Rome, and Aeneas, who took refuge in Lazio from the Trojan war.

His family, and in particular his uncle Gaius Mario, was not well seen by Silla, who in those years had become a dictator of Rome.

So the young Giulio left Rome to go to military service in Asia where he visited Bitinia, participated in the siege of Mytilene and stopped in Cilicia to hunt pirates.

Caesar's life was full of events: between 30 and 40 he was kidnapped by pirates, returned to Asia, became a great lawyer in Rome, moved to Spain, made a career in politics, was embroiled in the two conspiracies put in place by Catilina and enjoyed the protection of Cicero, while he was always hindered by another great rhetorician, Cato the Censor.

In 59 BC Giulio had a great political success: he was elected consul.

This appointment and the secret agreement he had entered into the year before with the wealthiest man in Rome, Crassus, and with the general with the most successes behind him, Pompeo, allowed Caesar to direct the politics of Rome for 10 years.

.

Caesar's alliance with Crassus and Pompey took the name of the first Triumvirate, that is, the union of three men.
